Grow your skills through
compassionate supervision
About Alex:
Education & Experience
Alex is registered as a board-approved supervisor with the Virginia Board of Social Work. Alex has been practicing as a licensed clinical social worker for five years, and has accumulated a total of 13 years of experience providing trauma-informed care for victims/survivors of interpersonal trauma.
After graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2016 with a Masters in Social Work and concentration in gender violence intervention, Alex began working as a domestic violence counselor. She has extensive experience working with adults who have experienced various forms of interpersonal violence. This includes people who have experienced physical, psychological, sexual abuse as children/teens as well as people who have experienced trauma in adulthood. Alex has worked with this client population for 13 years starting as a volunteer working in emergency shelter programs for families fleeing domestic/sexual violence. Since trauma does not discriminate, Alex has worked with people of various racial/ethnic identities, income levels, ages, gender identities, sexual orientation, neurodivergence, and religious beliefs.
She understands the importance of engaging in respectful and curious conversations about difference.
As a licensed clinician Alex uses a blend of psychodynamic theoretical orientation, trauma-informed best practices, and mind-body integration.
Alex completed a two year post-graduate clinical training program at the New Washington School of Psychiatry deepening her study of psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approaches to psychotherapy.
She believes that the most powerful clinical tool to facilitate growth is through the therapeutic relationship, as this becomes internalized and helps clients have a more accepting and compassionate relationship with themselves.
While clinical supervision involves improving one’s clinical skill, Alex believes that clinician self-care and self-compassion are necessary components of supervisory discussions.
Outside of work
Alex’s favorite hobbies include yoga, thrifting and hiking in the fall.
She’s a dog and cat mom and she loves reading mystery novels.
Her logo was inspired by her tattoo: The lotus, to her, represents growth through adversity: blooming from the mud.
Being near the water is soothing for Alex (the beach, the ocean, or a river… she’ll take it all!).
