EMDR Therapy in Richmond, Virginia
From past pain to
present living.
Does this sound like you?
You believe that you are fundamentally bad or defective in some way.
You have repeated dreams and nightmares about a stressful experience from your past or person in your life.
You feel nervous, activated, “triggered” when you see people, places, and things that remind you of past stressful experiences.
You are not alone.
Let’s talk about…
EMDR Therapy
EMDR is an evidence based treatment modality using neuroscience and attachment research. The use of bilateral stimulation of both hemispheres of the brain allows us to integrate logic and emotion when reprocessing past events. For more information please visit www.emdria.org
What can EMDR help you achieve:
Decrease reactivity to reminders of traumatic/stressful events (triggers).
Gain a more accepting and positive view of oneself.
Decrease frequency of intrusive thoughts and memories about the traumatic events
How does it work?
Step 1: Free Consultation Call
We begin with a complimentary consultation call to determine if I would be a suitable fit to assist you in achieving your therapeutic goals.
Step 2: 90-Minute Intake Appointment for Your First Session
During this appointment, we gather information and delve into present difficulties, personal history, background, family life, and relationship history. This initial session allows me to gain a comprehensive understanding of who you are, laying the foundation for our work together. (EMDR is not utilized in this first session).
Step 3: Schedule subsequent 60-minute sessions.
Subsequently, sessions will be 60 minutes in duration.
A note: We strengthen coping skills that already exist or add new ones as needed to equip you during EMDR sessions. Strong emotions can arise and we want people to tolerate those emotions and have the tools to do so. We aren’t just throwing you in the deep end. We ease in.
We will use EMDR together until your level of distress significantly decreases.
